Master Plant Diet

An extended dieta undertaken specifically to form a deep spiritual relationship with a particular plant teacher — the primary apprenticeship method in the Shipibo curanderismo tradition.

A master plant diet is an extended dieta undertaken to form a deep, sustained spiritual relationship with a single plant teacher, rather than the shorter dieta observed around an individual ceremony. It is the traditional method of spiritual apprenticeship in the Shipibo curanderismo tradition, through which curanderos and facilitators are trained.

During a master plant diet, a participant follows strict dietary restriction, isolation, and prayer over a sustained period, taking the plant itself under the guidance of an experienced facilitator. The purpose is spiritual formation — learning the plant's icaros, its character, and its teaching — not a physical health regimen.

Master plant diets are demanding and undertaken only by those called to deeper apprenticeship, typically after significant experience in ceremony and pre-ceremony practice such as fasting and shorter dietas. ECC's facilitators guide participants through what a master plant diet requires before one begins.
