Meditation

The practice of intentional inner stillness and watchfulness cultivated as part of spiritual preparation for ceremony and as an ongoing spiritual discipline.

Meditation is the practice of intentional inner stillness and watchfulness — quieting the mind's noise to become more receptive to the spirit. At Earth Connection Community, meditation is both a tool of spiritual preparation before ceremony and an ongoing spiritual discipline participants are encouraged to carry into daily life.

Before a retreat, meditation helps a participant settle distraction and approach ceremony with a calm, attentive heart, often paired with preparatory prayer and intention setting. Simple practices — sitting quietly, following the breath, resting attention on a word of prayer — are usually enough; ECC does not ask participants to master any particular technique before arriving.

During and after ceremony, that same watchfulness supports a participant in receiving what arises with openness rather than resistance, rather than reaching for distraction. ECC offers meditation as a spiritual discipline in service of relationship with the divine, in keeping with contemplative practices found across many religious traditions.
