Preparatory prayer is the prayer a participant offers in the days and weeks before ceremony as an act of spiritual readiness. It may be a formal daily prayer practice or simple, informal words offered in quiet moments — the form matters less than the sincerity behind it.
Preparatory prayer opens the heart to receive the sacrament with humility and reverence. It often accompanies other elements of preparation — fasting, intention setting, meditation — and helps a participant arrive at ceremony already oriented toward the sacred, rather than treating the retreat as the first moment of spiritual engagement. Many participants also use this time to pray for the facilitators and fellow participants they will share ceremony with, and for protection and clarity throughout the retreat.
Facilitators may offer participants specific prayers or invite them to draw on their own spiritual or religious background; Earth Connection Community welcomes participants' own sincere traditions of prayer as part of this preparation.
