Sacred cleansing refers to ritual purification practices used to prepare the body and spirit before ceremony. Rooted in the Shipibo curanderismo tradition, these may include spiritual bathing with prepared plant waters, smudging with sacred smoke, or prayer-accompanied washing.
These practices are symbolic and spiritual rather than hygienic in purpose: they mark a transition from ordinary life into ceremonial space, and an intention to set aside what does not belong there. A facilitator may lead sacred cleansing for a group before ceremony begins, or a participant may be guided toward a simpler individual practice as part of their own preparation.
Sacred cleansing is one part of a broader arc of preparation that includes fasting, prayer, and intention setting — together forming the spiritual readiness Earth Connection Community asks of every participant before they enter ceremony.
